Chapter 7
7 Waveguides and Cavities
Guided electromagnetic waves: TEM, TM and TE modes in parallel-plate, rectangular, circular, coaxial and dielectric guides, microstrip lines and cavity resonators.
A waveguide confines an electromagnetic wave between conducting walls or inside a dielectric and carries it along a chosen path. This chapter develops the general analysis of guided fields and applies it to the common guides used in practice, from parallel plates to microstrip lines, and to cavity resonators.
This chapter is being written. Its eight sections and their planned topics are listed below, and each will appear here with its theory, solved problems and interactive simulations.
