Recap
- Nabla is a vector operator. It gives the gradient (scalar vector), the divergence (vector scalar), the curl (vector vector) and the Laplacian (scalar scalar).
- Gradient: gives the direction and size of the fastest increase of and is normal to the level surfaces, with and .
- Divergence: : net outward flux per unit volume (sources , sinks ).
- Curl: the determinant (2.2.8), and : circulation per unit area (the paddle wheel), right-hand rule.
- Laplacian: , and . It is positive in a dip, negative on a bump, zero where equals the average of its neighbours.
- Null identities: , .
